Wyoming Main Street Program offers Scholarship for conference

CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Main Street Program is offering a scholarship for individuals interested in attending the National Main Streets Conference and Pre-Trip in Philadelphia, March 27-April 3.

The scholarship covers the cost of expenses such as airfare to and from the applicant’s nearest airport and Philadelphia; lodging costs during the pre-trip and National Main Streets Conference; meals during the Pre-Trip and National Main Streets Conference and conference registration fees for the National Main Streets Conference.

The Pre-Trip is a two-day visit before the national conference to local Main Street programs in rural Pennsylvania, which offers a chance to network with the Pennsylvania program managers, board members and volunteers.

Those eligible to apply for the scholarship must be residents of a Wyoming municipality and associated with, or supported by, one of the following organizations: local government, downtown association or its equivalent, downtown merchants association, urban renewal authority, downtown development authority, chamber of commerce, historic preservation organization or other community organizations intended to revitalize a historic downtown.

Individuals interested in applying for the Wyoming Main Street Pre-Trip and National Main Streets Conference Scholarship must complete the application form in its entirety. The application must also include a letter of support for the individual’s attendance from a board or local government to attend the National Main Street Conference. Notification of scholarship awards will be made from the Wyoming Main Street staff on or around March 5, 2008. In exchange for funding Wyoming Main Street requires that recipients give a report to their local city/town council as well as the Wyoming Main Street Advisory Board about the information they learned on their trip and how it will help their community.
For more information, contact Wyoming Main Street Program Manager Evan Medley at 307.777.2934 or evan.medley@wybusiness.org.

The Wyoming Main Street Program is dedicated to providing Wyoming communities with the opportunities to strengthen local pride and revitalize historic downtown districts by utilizing the Main Street Four Point Approach. This approach means Wyoming Main Street strives to help downtown business owners improve the appearance of downtowns, build cooperation between downtown groups, help downtowns market their unique qualities and strengthen the economic base of downtown.

The mission of the Wyoming Business Council is to facilitate the economic growth of Wyoming. For more information, please visit the Web site at www.wyomingbusiness.org.
