Rentech, Inc. to present economic energy study results
CHEYENNE – Rentech, Inc. will present the results of its study on the economic viability of constructing a coal-to-liquids clean-emission fuel plant in the Powder River Basin at 10 a.m. on April 14 in Room 302 of the State Capital in Cheyenne.
The Denver-based company’s presentation will include speakers Claude C. Corkadel III, Vice President of Strategic Programs and Peter S. Pedersen, Manager of Project Engineering.
In June 2004, Rentech entered into a contract with the Wyoming Business Council to perform an engineering design and economic study. The study evaluated the economic viability of constructing a mine-mouth plant capable of producing 10,000 barrels a day of the ultra-low sulfur Fischer-Tropsch Diesel (FTD) for distribution in Wyoming, California and other Western States. The FTD study considered the amount of coal needed for fuel production and the feasibility of the Powder River Basin supplying that coal.
The analysis includes a review of the technologies suitable for Wyoming coal and a perspective look at the California and Rocky Mountain regional markets for FTD. Most importantly, the study will describe the overall economics of an initial plant of this size with the capability of expanding the facility as demand grows. All of this supports Wyoming’s expanding role as a major player in producing clean transportation fuels for US energy needs. The project was funded in part by a $500,000 award from the State of Wyoming Petroleum Violation fund.
Space will be limited, so RSVP Tom Fuller, Wyoming State Energy Program Manager. For more information on Rentech, visit the Web site at www.rentechinc.com.
