Wyoming Business Council’s Ag Business Program active during State Fair
CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Business Council’s Agribusiness Division will maintain a consistent presence at the 2005 Wyoming State Fair this month. The Agribusiness Division will sponsor a Farmers’ Market, and a pavilion of Wyoming-made products during the fair, which runs from August 13-20 in Douglas.
Several openings are still available for anyone wishing to sell their produce or meat at the Farmers’ Market, which will be held August 20. Raspberry Delight Farms near Riverton has participated in the Farmers’ Market the past two years and will be in Douglas again this month.
“We really did it for the exposure,” said Greg Jarvis, owner of Raspberry Delight Farms. “There are people from all over at the state fair and a lot of them did call us back to set up a time to pick fresh raspberries on our farm or get a gift basket out of the catalogue they picked up at the Farmers’ Market.
The Farmers’ Market will be held in a tent just north of the grandstands and runs from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Interested parties should contact Ted Craig at 307-777-6578. There is no cost to participate.
Items that have been sold in the past at the Farmers’ Market include fresh vegetables, sweet corn, raspberries, fresh meat and ground wheat. Cold storage bags will be provided for customers wishing to keep their purchase cool.
Saturday, August 20 is also Wyoming Author’s Day at the State Fair. Thus far Arnetta Baugh, Dennis Goldberg, Larry K. Brown, Steve Lindermier, Penny Zeller and Nancy Curtis will be available to autograph their books. They will be located in the Wyoming Products Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Business Council will also sponsor the seventh annual Wyoming Products Pavilion, a showcase for many different Wyoming-made products. The pavilion will be open daily during the fair and is located in the upper Ag building on the fairgrounds.
Judging for the State Fair Hay Show will be Tuesday, August 16 at the Ag and Natural Resource Center. The WBC’s Agribusiness Division was instrumental in setting up the judging. The hay will remain on exhibit for the rest of the week.
The mission of the Wyoming Business Council is to facilitate the economic growth of Wyoming. For more information, please visit the Web site at www.wyomingbusiness.org.
