Wyoming Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Announces Contractor Selection

CHEYENNE –The Wyoming Business Council’s State Energy Program and the Wyoming Energy Council (WEC) announced today that contractors have been selected to participate in the Wyoming Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® (WHPwES) program.

Contractors who will lead Wyoming in improving residential comfort and efficiency include: Advanced Air Systems, Inc., AdamsCraft, Inc., Built Green Technologies, Inc., Doors and More and Precision Construction. Also participating in the program will be GLS Construction, inspector for the City of Cheyenne Community and Housing Development.

WHPwES is an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE) backed program which helps homeowners improve the comfort and durability of their existing homes while protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency. The whole-house building science approach can help make an existing home energy efficient, reduce energy costs, and improve indoor air quality while enhancing durability and comfort for the homeowners. Case studies reveal that the energy efficiency of homes can be improved by 30- 80 percent, depending on the work the homeowner chooses to perform.

Participating contractors will be certified in the WHPwES program following an intensive training and mentoring course. They will learn to perform energy audits in pre-existing homes using state-of-the-art tests and equipment which will allow them to recommend the most cost-effective way for homeowners to save money on heating and cooling bills.

The certification will involve seven all-day classes, including lectures and work on actual homes. There is also one day of written and field testing, along with ongoing mentoring and quality assurance checks following certification.

WEC has contracted with Kansas Building Science Institute to conduct the training courses. Doug Walter and Gene Meyer are well recognized in the building science industry and bring more than 25 years experience to these cutting-edge Wyoming contractors.
Homeowners should start looking for Home Performance with ENERGY STAR services the Cheyenne area to start in late April. Only this exclusive group of cutting-edge contractors will be allowed to use the logo in Wyoming. Homeowners can find more information by going to www.energystar.gov and clicking on Home Performance with ENERGY STAR or calling WEC at 800-742-0312 or in Laramie, call 307-742-0313.
