State Fair Products Pavilion offers more than just products

DOUGLAS – The Wyoming State Fair Products Pavilion will offer Wyoming-made products for sale and craft demonstrations Aug. 11-18 in the Ft. Fetterman Building at the State Fairgrounds in Douglas.

The Wyoming State Fair Products Pavilion will feature Wyoming-made products such as horse hair pottery, aspen furniture, spices, candles, lotions, metal artwork, jewelry, wildlife and western photographs, books, DVDs, CDs, clothing and more. Two businesses will sell their products in booths located in the Pavilion: JK Leather and Grandpa’s Gadgets. The Wyoming Business Council will also sell products for 40 Wyoming businesses in the Pavilion store.

“This is a great opportunity for State Fair visitors to show their support of Wyoming businesses,” said Kim Porter, Wyoming Business Council. “We will feature over 40 unique businesses from all around the state at the Pavilion.”

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view craft demonstrations by Wyoming artisans from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Pavilion five times during the week. The demonstrations include:

  • Aug. 11 - Accentrix Handcrafted Gifts - Adele Young will demonstrate an old fashioned sock knitting machine that she and her husband restored.
  • Aug. 12 - Heart N Photo Inspirations - Nicky Groenewold and Bailey Terry turn a rope into a beautiful piece of art.
  • Aug. 14 - The Woolie Llama - Ila Miller will demonstrate hot and cold felting, the process of taking raw fiber and turning it into a unique material.
  • Aug. 16 - Broken Pine Leather - Mary Lynn Parril will demonstrate the art of leather work. She does a wide variety of leather art including leather flowers, wedding bouquets, 3-D pictures, sculptures, jewelry and more.
  • Aug. 17 - Wild West Products - Wayne Whiting makes saddles and tack and will demonstrate the process.

In addition to craft demonstrations, the Pavilion will also host Wyoming Author’s Day from 12 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 18. The event will feature author readings at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. “Visitors will have the opportunity to buy a book, meet the authors, get their book autographed, listen to the authors read their books and have a chance to win a fabulous prize,” said Porter.

The event highlights Wyoming authors including: Charlotte Babcock, Arnetta Baugh, J.D. Boyd, Larry K. Brown, Renee Carrier, Julianne Couch, Nancy Curtis, Craig Johnson, Michael McClure, Tom Rea, Jeanne Rogers, Betty Schmidt, Michael Shay, Bob Simkins, Barbara Smith, Garry Wallace and Jane Elkington Wohl.
