Martin takes over as Loan and Portfolio Manager

CHEYENNE – Mike Martin has been named the portfolio/loan program manager at the Wyoming Business Council, taking over the position from Ben Avery who was promoted to Director of Business and Industry Aug. 20.

The Wyoming Business Council’s portfolio/loan program manager is responsible for developing procedures and relationships with Wyoming bankers and bond underwriters to market and promote financial tools facilitating expansion, retention and recruitment of businesses for the State of Wyoming. The manager reviews loan packages, applications, business plans and financial data of clients to ensure they are ready for assistance with state investments.

Martin is a Rawlins native who picked up his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Wyoming and his MBA from Regis University. Martin was a banker in Cheyenne for 12 years before taking the assistant division administrator of business training and outreach for the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. During his time at DWS, Martin was responsible for the workforce training fund as well as employment and training for self-sufficiency program. In addition to his work in the public sector, Martin has also owned several small businesses and worked as a consultant for information technology projects. Martin is married and has four daughters.

“During my time at Department of Workforce Services, I worked closely with the Business Council in several capacities and am familiar with their mission and their methods for working with businesses within the state. I am happy to be on board and look forward to my time at the Business Council.”
