Wyoming Farmers’ Market Conference slated for January

CHEYENNE – The second annual Farmers’ Market Conference will be held in conjunction with the Winter Ag Expo Jan. 9 at the Best Western Douglas Inn.

There will be two tracts for Farmers’ Marketing Conference attendees – one geared towards market managers and a second towards market vendors and producers. Breakout sessions include topics such as “Organic Certification–Do You Really Need It,” and “Market Management Practices.”

“This is an excellent opportunity for vendors and managers of Farmers’ Markets to network and hear what works and what doesn’t work at other markets around the state,” said Wyoming Business Council Value-Added Program Manager Ted Craig.

On-site registration for the event opens at 7:30 a.m. and the conference starts at 8:45 a.m. with Renee King, Wyoming Farmers’ Marketing Association President, offering opening remarks. The conference will wind down around 3:30 p.m.

The conference closes with the Wyoming Farmers’ Market Association’s annual meeting and elections for open board positions. There will also be a joint reception for those attending the Farmers’ Market Conference as well as the Ag-based Innovative Marketing Conference, on Jan.8 from 6-7 p.m.

The Farmers’ Market Conference is co-sponsored by the Wyoming Business Council’s Agribusiness Division, the Wyoming Farmers’ Marketing Association, the Wyoming Department of Agriculture, and Wyoming Rural Development Council. The event is one of four conferences making up the Winter Ag Expo. Bales and Bovines will kick off the Winter Ag Expo on Monday, Jan. 7 featuring displays aimed at cattle and hay producers in addition to cattle and hay shows. Roping the Wind, a conference which will focus on myths versus the realities of energy opportunities for landowners in Wyoming also starts on Jan. 7. The fourth annual Ag-based Innovative Marketing Expo (AIMe) is scheduled for Jan. 8 at the Best Western Douglas Inn. The AIMe Conference features speakers who have found innovative ways to diversify their agricultural trades.

Registration for Wyoming Farmers Market Conference is $35 and includes lunch. For more information go to www.wyomingfarmersmarkets.org or contact Ted Craig at 307.777.6578 or ted.craig@wybusiness.org. The Best Western Douglas Inn is offering $60 rooms for conference attendees if you reserve by Dec. 5. For room reservations, call 307-358-9790.
