Evanston named Wyoming’s sixth Main Street Community
CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Main Street Program announced today that Evanston has been accepted into the Wyoming Main Street Program, showing Evanston’s commitment to downtown revitalization through historic preservation.
With their acceptance into the Wyoming Main Street Program, Evanston becomes the sixth Wyoming community in the state program joining Green River, Rock Springs, Dubois, Laramie and Rawlins.
Wyoming Main Street is dedicated to providing Wyoming communities with the opportunities to strengthen local pride and revitalize historic downtown districts by utilizing the Main Street Four-Point Approach™. The approach includes concentrating on design, promotion, economic restructuring and organization.
In order to become a Main Street program, a panel consisting of representatives of the Wyoming Main Street Advisory Board, the Wyoming Business Council, the Wyoming Department of Transportation, State Historic Preservation Office and the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Board of Advisors review an application from the community. The document is evaluated on support/funding, historic buildings, data and activities; potential; current community demographics; as well as history and readiness.
“The panelists were very pleased with Evanston’s application,” said Wyoming Main Street Program Manager Evan Medley. “Evanston’s scores were very high and they did a great job of outlining their program goals and their potential to be successful in the Main Street program.”
Evanston became the first community to take advantage of Wyoming Main Street’s Grandfather Application process, which provides an opportunity for communities that have been practicing downtown revitalization on their own to expedite their official entry into the program.
The mission of the Wyoming Business Council is to facilitate the economic growth of Wyoming. For more information, please visit the Web site at www.wyomingbusiness.org.
