Twentififth Annual National Tourism Week
“Discover Great Wyoming Traditions”
May 10-18, 2008

National Tourism Week is a collective effort to promote the power of travel through customized events in communities nationwide. The goal is to enhance our economy and to recognize the cultural and social benefits created by travel and tourism. Here are some tools to help you in planning your activities.

Wyoming Travel & Tourism has developed a professional certification program for individuals who work with the traveling public. The purpose of the program is to acknowledge frontline personnel as certified travel professionals, develop a trained and knowledgeable workforce for the travel and tourism industry, and create a more visitor friendly Wyoming.

The certification program consists of three levels of recognition with each level increasing in difficulty. Candidates will be tested on their knowledge of the state of Wyoming.  Topics include, but are not limited to, geography, history, culture, traveler safety, flora and fauna, attractions, hunting and fishing, and the economic impact of travel and tourism. For test dates and locations contact Candi Woske, Industry Services Specialist at 307.777.2887 or candi.woske@visitwyo.gov.

Customer Service, Information Centers and In-State Development

Customer Service Representatives answer traveler inquiries by phone, e-mail, and through information centers. Centers are located in Cheyenne, Laramie, Sundance and Sheridan. Materials that meet brochure guidelines for tourism businesses and local destinations are distributed through these centers at no charge. Contact Steve Kelso, Supervisor, Welcome Centers at 307.777.2883 or steve.kelso@visitwyo.gov.

The In-State Development program provides technical assistance to local destinations in tourism, product, and service development as well as managing the turnouts and signage program dollars. Projects involving turnout construction and signage needs require application to access the funds.

Deadline for applications is in August each year. For more information on In-State Development, contact Leslie Kedelty, Manager, Industry Services at 307.777.2839 or leslie.kedelty@visitwyo.gov.
